Day 30 went pretty well academically. I completed all six scheduled lectures of Computer Organization and Architecture (COA), practised questions based on instructions, and started a new chapter in DBMS: the ER Model.

However, I couldn't complete the DBMS catch-up lecture that had been pending since Sunday. I'm also dealing with a temporary change in my study routine because of Navratri celebrations in my society.

On top of that, Tuesday is my fasting day for Hanumanji, which made today's routine a little more challenging than usual.

Here's how Day 30 of my GATE CSE 2027 preparation went.

What I Studied Today: COA Instruction Structure

I continued with Computer Organization and Architecture, focusing on instruction-related concepts.

I completed all six lectures scheduled for today. The topics included instruction structure, how instructions work, different types of instructions, and the various fields that make up an instruction.

I also solved multiple questions based on instructions. This gave me an opportunity to work with the concepts rather than just watch the lectures and move on.

Toward the end of the chapter, I studied addressing modes.

Some of the addressing modes I remember are:

  • Implied addressing
  • Direct addressing
  • Indirect addressing
  • Register indirect addressing
  • Register addressing

There were two more addressing modes in the lecture, but I couldn't recall their names while reflecting on the day.

Normally, I would have watched the final lecture on addressing modes. However, the garba music in my society was making it difficult to concentrate, so I decided to revise the topic using my prepared notes instead.

That turned out to be manageable. Since I had already prepared the notes, I could revise the concepts without needing to sit through another lecture in a distracting environment.

This was a small but useful adjustment. I didn't abandon the topic just because the usual study method wasn't working.

Starting a New DBMS Chapter: The ER Model

I also started the Entity-Relationship Model chapter in DBMS.

Instead of continuing with the Transaction and Concurrency Control chapter, I moved to the ER Model, which I had originally planned to start on Sunday.

I covered the basic concepts, including entities, entity sets, attributes, and different types of attributes.

These are the building blocks of the ER Model. Before getting into more complicated diagrams and relationships, I need to understand what these terms mean and how they relate to one another.

It felt good to start another DBMS chapter, especially because I had been planning to begin it earlier.

However, there's one thing I need to keep track of: the DBMS lecture I missed on Sunday is still pending. Starting the ER Model doesn't mean that the backlog has disappeared. Unfortunately, unfinished lectures don't seem to understand the concept of voluntary retirement.

I'll try to complete that lecture on Wednesday.

The Navratri Challenge: Changing My Study Routine

Navratri celebrations are continuing in my society, and the garba music is affecting my usual evening study routine.

Normally, the 10 PM to midnight slot is when I get a proper two-hour block for focused study. It has been an important part of my routine because I can sit down and concentrate during those hours.

But during these nine days of Navratri, I'm deliberately avoiding that late-night study session.

Instead, I'm trying to complete my heavier study sessions in the morning, before coming home, or before dinner and the garba celebrations begin.

This isn't because I suddenly prefer studying earlier or because I want to replace difficult tasks with easier ones. The reality is that my usual study environment has temporarily changed, and I'm trying to work around it.

I also have my October 30 syllabus-completion deadline in mind. I can't simply ignore the schedule for nine days and expect everything to work out automatically.

At the same time, I don't want to redesign my entire preparation strategy because of a temporary disturbance. My plan is to adjust my study timing for these nine days and return to my usual routine afterward.

For now, I'll try to get the important work done before the celebrations begin.

Tuesday Fasting Made the Day More Restless

There's another personal detail worth recording about today.

I observe a fast for Hanumanji every Tuesday. Today, I hadn't eaten anything since morning, and that left me feeling restless.

Despite that, I managed to complete all six scheduled COA lectures and start the ER Model chapter in DBMS.

The rest of my weekdays are generally manageable, and my energy is usually pretty good. So I don't want to treat today's experience as though every day is equally difficult.

Tuesday simply comes with an additional constraint for me.

Between fasting, office work, GATE preparation, and the temporary Navratri disturbance, the day required some adjustment. I'm glad I managed to complete the main COA target.

What About the Pending DBMS Lecture?

The DBMS catch-up lecture is still on my list.

I had planned to complete it today, but I ended up focusing on the ER Model instead. I'll try to fit the pending lecture into Wednesday's schedule without shifting the entire plan by a day.

This is something I need to handle carefully because my syllabus-completion deadline is October 30.

I want to finish the syllabus on time so that November can be devoted to revision, question practice, mock tests, and analysis. Every unfinished lecture needs to be accounted for, but I also need to be realistic about the time available around my job.

For now, the plan remains unchanged. I'll continue following my existing schedule and try to recover the missed DBMS lecture on Wednesday.

What I Realized on Day 30

Today's experience reminded me that a study schedule doesn't always unfold exactly as planned.

Sometimes the challenge is understanding a difficult concept. Sometimes it's finding enough time after work. And sometimes it's simply dealing with circumstances that are outside my control.

Today, I managed to complete all six COA lectures, practise questions, and begin a new DBMS chapter. I also adapted my revision method when the usual lecture-based approach became inconvenient.

The DBMS backlog is still there, and the October deadline is getting closer. I'm not going to pretend that everything is perfectly on track just because the day went well.

But I don't think every productive day needs to be flawless.

For Wednesday, I'll continue with my existing schedule and try to complete one DBMS catch-up lecture from Sunday.

The Navratri celebrations will continue for a few more days, so I'll keep working around them rather than fight a losing battle with the loudspeakers every night.

Day 30 is complete. Six COA lectures are done, the ER Model chapter has begun, and one DBMS lecture remains on the backlog. Tomorrow, it's back to the schedule.

What do you think?

Studying for GATE is less lonely when we're all figuring it out together.
