Computer Networks
First pass done — notes completeNetworks felt abstract until I started drawing the layers out myself instead of just reading the OSI model as a list. It's also the subject with the most "wait, which layer does this again" confusion when I started.
First pass through the syllabus is done. Next up is a dedicated week of subnetting and routing numericals, since that's where most of my mock test losses in this subject come from.
Topics I'm covering
- OSI & TCP/IP Models
- IP Addressing & Subnetting
- Routing Algorithms
- Congestion & Flow Control
- Application Layer Protocols — DNS, HTTP, FTP
- Error Detection & Correction
- Switching — Circuit vs Packet
PYQ notes
Subnetting numericals and congestion-control questions are the ones I keep flagging for a redo.
From the journey
A Corporate Monday, Some C Mistakes, and a Plan for October
Studied Computer Networks during the commute and completed a lecture on Jacobson's algorithm.
A Slow Sunday and My Struggle With Test Time Management
Watched a lecture on RTT estimation and Jacobson's algorithm while thinking through test-time management.
TCP Timers, a Data Structures Test, and an Unexpected Algorithm Revision
Completed a two-hour TCP timer lecture, reflected on an 11/25 Data Structures test, and revised asymptotic concepts.
A 60% Score, TCP Diagrams, and One Wrong AI Answer
Revised TCP state transition diagrams and worked through connection establishment and termination cases.
